Turkey - New Labeling Requirements for Certain Consumer Products Containing Animal-Origin Parts

Vol. 1479 | 17 Jun 2025
Turkey requires clear labeling of animal-origin parts in consumer products, including textiles and footwear, on packaging and online, with information provided in Turkish for consumer transparency and compliance.
On April 9, 2025, the Ministry of Commerce published Official Gazette No. 32865, announcing an amendment to the Communiqué on Conformity Inspection of Certain Consumer Products. This amendment introduces new labeling requirements to ensure that consumers are informed about the presence of animal-origin parts in certain goods, particularly textiles and footwear. The regulation, which was scheduled to take effect on June 9, 2025, is currently in effect and businesses must adhere to the updated requirements.
Key Highlights of the Amendments
- Disclosure of Animal Origin: Products containing parts of animal origin must clearly indicate the specific animal from which these parts are derived.
- Labeling Requirements: This information must be provided on the product label, packaging, or in an accompanying document.
- E-Commerce Compliance: For products sold online or through remote communication tools, the information must be displayed in the product description section.
All information must be presented in Turkish, in a clear, legible, and non-misleading manner, and must be available to consumers before purchase.
