Explore the major honey testing trends that have emerged in 2024.
Published annually, our Honey Report looks at honey test results undertaken by our honey testing centre of excellence in Bremen during the previous year covering:
- Elemental analysis
- Authenticity
- Pesticides
- Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids
- Antibiotics
Of particular interest in this year’s report on 2024 testing results are:
- The finding of new antibiotic residues which we haven’t seen for a long time.
- A 100% increase in percentage of results showing high lead contamination, especially from one particular country.
- High concentrations of thymol found in honeys not labelled as thyme honey.
With the EU Breakfast Directive required to be transposed into national laws by 14th December 2025 and applicable from 14th June 2026, the need for rigorous quality control measures to ensure the purity and integrity of honey products is more essential than ever.
